At the association’s AGM cheque presentations were made by the McLaren Vale Vintage & Classic committee from funds raised at the charity dinner in April. A cheque for $8250 was presented to the McLaren Vale & District War Memorial Hospital. Chairman of the Board of Management of the hospital, Bill Dollman, accepted the cheque and said the donation would be used to purchase a new electrically operated theatre bed for the day surgery unit.
$250 was donated to each of the local CFS Brigades. This was $1 from each of the entry fees paid by vehicles participating in the event. The local CFS Brigades participate in the parade.
The 12th McLaren Vale Vintage & Classic in April was the biggest yet and was well attended by 15-20,000 people lining the Main Street of McLaren Vale to watch the Grand Parade of approximately 500 vehicles. The weather on the day was fantastic and 12 local wineries hosted the vehicles for the afternoon. The dinner with special guest Alan Jones was a great success and we raised a significant amount. Thanks to Tony Parkinson who organises these high profile guests. This event relies heavily on the generous support of many local businesses, both with financial and “in kind” payments. Plans are already underway for next year’s event with more venues wanting to be included.
